A carbon tax could be one of the next items on Democrats’ agenda as they work to boost green initiatives as part of any forthcoming climate change legislation.
But while such a tax would help fund some big-ticket items on progressives’ wish list – including a potential multi-trillion infrastructure plan that President Joe Biden is expected to announce on Wednesday – energy experts say a carbon tax would cause gas prices to skyrocket and could devastate the economy. According to the Carbon Tax Center, though, such a penalty remains "the core policy for reducing and eventually eliminating the use of fossil fuels."
