By    |   Tuesday, 11 September 2018 07:48 PM EDT

First responders in New York City conducted the "greatest rescue mission" in United States history the day of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, and they must never be forgotten, former NYPD commissioner Bernard Kerik told Newsmax TV.

During an appearance on "Newsmax Now," Kerik — the author of the new book "The Grave Above the Grave" — talked about the bravery displayed by police officers and fireman on that dark day 17 years ago.
