A groundbreaking new method of financing family-oriented movies called “equity crowdfunding” is rewriting the script in Hollywood.

“The Chosen” is a new streaming TV series about the life of Jesus Christ that debuts this week. The project was underwritten through a crowd-funding campaign that involved thousands of individuals who collectively chipped in more than $10 million to offset the production costs.
