The U.K. could face a chocolate Easter egg shortage because of Brexit, as many chocolate producers source ingredients from Europe and fear supplies will be cut without a trade pact, the U.K.'s Daily Star reports.
The British parliament Monday failed to agree on a new Brexit plan for a fourth time. Britain is due to leave the 29-member European trading bloc April 12, two weeks after originally planned and nearly two weeks before Easter.
Chocolate firms insist there will not be an issue, though British Liberal Democratic politician Tom Brake said the holiday could be without the traditional treat.
"Leavers might have promised the easiest treasure hunt in history, but two years with no real direction have put paid to that claim," he said, according to the Star.
"If chocolate manufacturers can't keep up with demand because their supply chains have been ripped up, there won't be any Easter eggs to chomp on."
A spokesman for Cadbury said: "We're preparing for a number of potential outcomes, so we can continue to serve our customers and consumers in the best possible way."
Nestle said: "The bulk of our Easter production, the majority of which is undertaken in the U.K. will be complete and on sale before the end of March."
