A survey of 5,800 small businesses across the country shows 43 percent have temporarily closed due to the coronavirus pandemic — and if the crisis drags on too long, many of them will never reopen.

“This represents a shock to America’s small firms that has little parallel since the 1930s,’’ stated the report by the National Bureau of Economic Research, a nonprofit research group.
