Tuesday’s stunning announcement that personnel are being evacuated from the USS Roosevelt due to a major coronavirus outbreak was the clearest sign to date the pandemic is degrading US military readiness.

The temporary loss of the force-projecting, 117,000-ton nuclear powered aircraft carrier docked at Guam, manned by over 4,000 Navy men and women, is a major blow to peacekeeping efforts in the South and East China seas.
