Mexico's new president, Andres Manuel López Obrador, conspicuously avoided the usual pomp and circumstance at his inauguration ceremony this weekend. Mexico’s first leftist president in decades, he arrived in a plain white Volkswagen unaccompanied by the usual legion of armed security.
President López Obrador, or AMLO as he is called in the media, has taken pains to assure financial markets their investments in Mexico are safe. How far left his administration leans probably will depend on how he evolves once the responsibility of governance rests squarely on his shoulders.
