Mitt Romney broke his two-month Twitter silence Wednesday by calling for Libertarian Gary Johnson to be included in the upcoming presidential debates.

Romney, the Republican presidential nominee in 2012, did not actually endorse Johnson. But he has said numerous times he does not plan to vote for Trump in November.

Romney served as Massachusetts governor from 2003-2007. Johnson's running mate Bill Weld held the office from 1991-1997.

In July, Johnson said he believed Romney was "considering" endorsing his candidacy for president.

Johnson was New Mexico's governor from 1995-2003. Most recently, he was the CEO of a medical marijuana products company.

Johnson admitted in June that he was smoking marijuana "recreationally" until sometime in the spring.
