One of Mitt Romney's former finance chairmen is voting for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

David Nierenberg wrote in a CNBC opinion piece Donald Trump is unfit to be president.

"Watching and listening to Donald Trump's erratic daily bullying, ranting, bragging, scapegoating, and name-calling, my conscience and my three adult children will not let me vote for him," Nierenberg said. Adding that he has voted Republican since 1980 and called Romney his "first boss and mentor."

Nierenberg criticized Trump's behavior, saying, "His character, temperament, and behavior definitely are not presidential. He speaks positively about foreign dictators and acts like one himself."

The former finance chairman, now the president of Nierenberg Investment Management, slammed Trump for not releasing his tax returns.

"For decades, candidates, including successful business people, have released their tax returns; why does Trump think he shouldn't follow the rules of the game? Defeating him has to be our national priority," Nierenberg said.

Nierenberg, however, said he is still a Republican and will vote for Republican candidates besides Trump. "Everybody else I will vote for this November will be a real Republican," he said.

He added praise for Clinton, saying she "knows her stuff. She is emotionally mature and centered. She respects and enjoys working with people from all backgrounds. She has diplomatic skills needed to break the gridlock in Washington and lead our country well."

Romney has also criticized Trump. In June, he told The Atlantic that he will not vote for either Clinton or Trump. "It's a matter of personal conscience," he said.
