Texas Republican Louie Gohmert on Wednesday said it would be a "huge mistake" to let President Donald Trump sit down with "desperate" special counsel Robert Mueller.
Gohmert made the comments on Fox News, adding that Mueller "doesn't have a case he can make" so he would likely try to confuse Trump on a fact in order to "prosecute him for perjury."
"It means (Mueller's) desperate," Gohmert said. "The best advice the president could get is, Mueller has nothing, don't give him anything. Say 'bring your best case, I'm not gonna help you.' I don't think he should. Mueller's not a friend; he's made that clear.
"This is (Mueller's) last-ditch effort to try to trip Trump up," Gohmert said. "It would be a huge mistake to let Mueller just sit down and have a free-ranging conversation … it needs to be avoided."
