Key Alabama Senate Race Surprisingly Competitive Due to Virus

A US Senate seat Republicans felt certain they’d flip in November now looks surprisingly competitive, in part due to an electoral calendar upended by the coronavirus outbreak.  

A reliably red state, Alabama broke for Trump by an 28-point margin in 2016. Democratic Sen. Doug Jones of Alabama has been seen as the most endangered incumbent in the country. Failing to flip Alabama would be a major blow to GOP hopes of holding onto the Senate.
