The Soviets understood the West's superior technology might develop effective defenses, giving SDI significant negotiating leverage. When they met in Reykjavik, Iceland in October 1986, Reagan walked out rather than give up SDI.

Indeed, SDI would likely have been strangled in the crib had it not been led by a senior well-qualified technical individual (Gen. Abrahamson), who reported directly to the Secretary of Defense and then, in effect, President Reagan.

While I am not opposed to arms control activities, having spent a significant portion of my life on such efforts, I much more favor eliminating Iran’s repeated explicit threats to attack America, the “Great Satan,” as well as Israel, the “Little Satan.”
