Two Iranian naval vessels believed to be bound for Venezuela could signal yet another deepening tie between two adversaries of the United States.

For decades, Iran has looked to Latin America to create political alliances, grow trade, and project its global power. It has cozied up to Latin American countries that are hostile to the U.S. in order to establish as much influence in the region as possible.
