Senate's Fate May Hinge on Show-Me State Showdown

Senator Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., questions a witness [Reuters/Gary Cameron]

Incumbent Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri faces a brutal dilemma over President Trump’s Supreme Court nomination, one that could determine not only her political destiny but also the fate of the Senate.

Her painful choice: Whether to hold her nose and vote to confirm President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Judge Brett Kavanaugh, thereby demoralizing and angering her own liberal base, or oppose Kavanaugh, thereby inviting the wrath of Missouri voters who favored Trump by a whopping 18.5 point margin in 2016.
