State lawmakers may find themselves with a greater ability to make decisions. If Amy Coney Barrett is confirmed to the Supreme Court, the biggest change she will bring is a return of power to states and local branches of government. That’s the conclusion of political and legal experts, who cite Barrett’s reputation of being a textualist or originalist, someone who upholds the U.S. Constitution as it was written.
“If Judge Amy Coney Barrett is confirmed as a SCOTUS justice, the direction of jurisprudence will shift away from greater government control, oversight, and mandates, and toward increased power to the states, local jurisdictions and liberty,” Houston-based Republican strategist Vlad Davidiuk said, adding a conservative majority leading the high court would mean “more freedom and less government,” which he calls a “win-win for America.”
