Poll: Voters Split Between GOP, Dems on Generic Ballot

Voters are divided on which political party they would vote for on a generic ballot if the elections for Congress were held today, according to a new Politico-Morning Consult poll.

Here are the results of the poll of registered voters:

  • 43% said they would vote for a  Democrat candidate, while 42% say they would vote for a Republican.
  • 45% of men said they would vote for the Republican candidate, compared to 37% who said they would vote for a Democrat. 
  • 46% of women said they would vote for a Democrat, while 38% would vote for a Republican.
  • 50% of white voters said they would vote for a Republican candidate, compared to 38% who said they would vote for a Democrat. 
  • 61% of Black voters said they would vote for a Democrat candidate, while 12% say they would vote Republican. 
  • 42% of Hispanic voters said they would vote for a Democrat candidate, compared to 32% who said they would vote for a Republican.

The poll, conducted April 8-11, surveyed 2,005 registered voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
