Playboy announced Monday it will once again feature nudity in its magazine after a year-long hiatus from the practice.

Chief creative officer Cooper Hefner, the son of the magazine's founder Hugh Hefner, tweeted the brand made a "mistake" by removing fully nude women from its pages.

Playboy debuted in 1953 and at one point had subscriber figures in the millions. In October 2015, when it was announced the magazine would remove nudity, subscriptions were down to about 800,000.

The Playboy website has not featured fully nude women since August 2015.
