Mike Huckabee is returning to his Southern Baptist roots and joining the world's largest Christian broadcasting network.
The former Arkansas governor, two-time GOP presidential candidate and veteran pastor has inked a deal to take his show "Huckabee," formerly on the Fox News Channel, to religious broadcaster Trinity Broadcasting Network.
The one-hour program will begin airing this fall at a time yet to be announced, according to Trinity, which describes its mission as "sending the message of hope and grace of Jesus to the world."
"My show is not going to be a religious show, and it's intentionally not," Huckabee told the show-business magazine Variety in an interview published Thursday.
"The best way to describe it is it's a show and the host happens to be a person who is unapologetically a Christian, a believer, and it will have a point of view. But not every segment is necessarily going to have some overtone of faith elements ...
"My views are certainly conservative and I don't think anyone would doubt that, but I also have to believe most people in America are not horizontal. They aren't left-right, liberal-conservative, Democratic-Republican."
The show will originate from Nashville, Tennessee, where Huckabee will focus on "news, issues, entertainment and faith," Trinity said in a statement.
The religious elements of the show will be nothing new to Huckabee. Before entering politics he was a Southern Baptist pastor. He led the Beech Street First Baptist Church in Texarkana, Ark., from 1986 to 1992.
The network's other programming includes: "The 700 Club with Pat Robertson," "Marriage Today with Jimmy & Karen Evans," "Laugh with the Skit Guys," "Joel Osteen," "Enjoying Everyday Life with Joyce Meyer," and "Christian World News."
