Leaks and Closed Door Testimony Deprive Us of Truth on Page, Strzok

Peter Strzok testified at a U.S. House Hearing on July 12 of this year. Members of the House Judiciary and Oversight and Government Reform committees, including Rep. John Ratcliffe, R-Texas, listened to testimony from  the former deputy assistant FBI director. (Somodevilla/Getty Images)

Disgraced FBI agent Peter Strzok’s partner in crime, well if not crime then certainly adultery, Lisa Page recently testified before the House Judiciary and House Oversight and Government Reform committees.

Instead of being a total clown show like the Strzok hearing with shouts, interruptions and general disorder, The Hill.com reports that essentially nothing untoward happened. If you consider the fact that Page essentially threw her erstwhile parmour under the bus to be unnewsworthy.

(For a more complete look at Strzok’s testimony, you can read an earlier column found here.)

The opposition media certainly did. Page’s testimony disappeared essentially without a trace. Part of that is due to the fact she testified in a closed session, so the leftists didn’t have cameras to which they could play.

But most of the absence of coverage is due to Page directly contradicting former main squeeze Strzok’s testimony and admitting that the anti-Trump texts the two sent meant exactly what the messages said.

Failed polygraph test taker Strzok stridently defended himself. He claimed texts that read “We'll stop it” after being asked, “[Trump's] not ever going to become president, right? Right?!”, didn’t mean what the texts plainly said. He claimed, “at no time, in any of these texts, did those personal beliefs ever enter into the realm of any action I took.”

Which left many observers dumb Strzok.

According to The Hill.com, Page dismissed the liar’s defense. Rep. John Ratcliffe, R-Texas, observed, “In many cases, she admits that the text messages mean exactly what they say, as opposed to agent Strzok, who thinks we have all misinterpreted his own words on any text message that might be negative.”

That startling revelation isn’t going to generate news among the Trump-hating media because it undercuts the Russia collusion case the opposition media, never tires of trumpeting from the rooftops. There is no way they will let conflicting testimony that supports an obvious interpretation of the texts get in the way of the Putin elected Trump fantasy.

Instead what we get are leaks from President Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen that prove absolutely nothing and may only serve to get Cohen disbarred for violating attorney-client privilege.

My only complaint is that by holding the testimony behind closed doors it denies the American public the chance to see for themselves what Page said. The media would have been forced to cover an open hearing, particularly after the coverage given Strozk.

Certainly leftists on the committees would have once again made fools of themselves.

Trading decorum for impact in connection with Page’s testimony was a short-sighted decision. Here’s hoping the full text of her testimony will be released as soon as possible.
