U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren not only supports the Occupy Wall Street movement but also believes she laid the groundwork for the protesters’ arguments.
When asked during an interview with
The Daily Beast about her thoughts concerning the Occupy Wall Street protests, the Massachusetts candidate said: “I created much of the intellectual foundation for what they do. I support what they do.”
The former head of President Barack Obama’s consumer-protection bureau hopes to wrest back the Senate seat that Republican Scott Brown grabbed upon the death of liberal icon Ted Kennedy.
Before working in the Obama administration, Warren worked as a professor of commercial law at Harvard and was a voice against the excesses of Wall Street. The 62-year-old Warren was a registered Republican into her 40s.
“I was a Republican because I thought that those were the people who best supported markets,” she told The Daily Beast. “I think that is not true anymore. I was a Republican at a time when I felt like there was a problem that the markets were under a lot more strain. It worried me whether or not the government played too activist a role.”
