Minn. Lawmaker: Sell Metrodome to Vikings for $1

Friday, 12 February 2010 10:50 AM EST

State Rep. Paul Kohls wants to practically give the Metrodome to the Vikings to keep the team in Minnesota.

The Republican from Victoria introduced a bill Thursday to sell the dome to the Vikings for $1 in exchange for an agreement to stay in the state for at least 20 years. Leaving any earlier would cost the team $5 million.

Kohls' bill would also disband the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission that manages the Metrodome.

Kohls says his proposal is an attempt to keep the team in Minnesota without putting tax dollars into a new stadium. He says the state is too broke to spend money on a football arena.

He says the Vikings could do whatever they wanted with the Metrodome.
