Fox News host Tucker Carlson said Thursday evening that Democrats have been "plotting" to use immigration policy to support a "coup."
On his show, Carlson warned that Democrats are going to tell you it's about civil rights or some principle they really care about — but they're lying. It's about seizing power and holding it. That's their only aim and they're deadly serious about it. While you were grilling in the backyard last night, they were plotting, in effect, a coup."
He also referred to a Congolese woman climbing atop the Statue of Liberty to protest the treatment of immigrants as a sign of "growing extremism in this country on the left."
Carlson's comments provoked some negative responses on Twitter.
