Former House Speaker John Boehner commented to his spokesman David Schnittger about Ted Cruz's
refusal to endorse Trump during Cruz's speech at the Republican National Convention.
His response: "Lucifer is back."
Boehner was alluding to a comment he made in April, in which he slammed Cruz, calling him
"Lucifer in the flesh."
Cruz apparently drew the ire of Republicans by his refusal to endorse Trump — he was snubbed at the luxury suite of
GOP donor Sheldon Adelson.
Former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin said his refusal would be
"career-ending." Meanwhile,
Cruz defended his refusal, saying he would not beg for Trump's approval like a "servile puppy dog."
Boehner retired from Congress in October 2015, but remains active in support of Republicans.
Politico reported that Boehner is starting a cross-country bus tour in support of Republicans in the House of Representatives.
