John Boehner cannonballed into the explosive race for the GOP presidential nomination on Wednesday as he blasted Ted Cruz as a "miserable son of a b****" and likened him to the devil.
At the same time, the former speaker of the House gave a tip of the hat to Donald Trump, saying the two had been pals for years and he plans to vote for the billionaire developer if he clinches the nomination.
Boehner, who's had a long running feud with Cruz, went ballistic when asked about him during a chat with students at Stanford University.
"[Cruz is] Lucifer in the flesh," Boehner declared, according to
The Stanford Daily newspaper.
"I have Democrat friends and Republican friends. I get along with almost everyone, but I have never worked with a more miserable son of a b--- in my life."
He added he would not vote for Cruz in the unlikely event the Texas senator is able to reverse the course of his fading campaign and beat Trump to the nomination.
Boehner has fired verbal missiles at Cruz in the past, last year labeling him a "jackass" for his hand in helping shut down the government in 2013 and his ongoing combat with fellow Republicans in the Senate.
During his talk with students, Boehner turned on the charm when talking about Trump, saying the two had played golf together for years and are "texting buddies."
But he was somewhat cryptic as he attempted to explain his relationship with Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who trails both Trump and Cruz in the nomination race.
"[He] requires more effort on my behalf than all my other friends … but he's still my friend, and I love him," Boehner said.
