Dr. Christine Blasey Ford was "victimized by the Democrats" seeking to stop Judge Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court, but the Senate will still confirm him, as more than one Democrat will vote in his support, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Friday.
"They deliberately set this whole thing up," Gingrich told Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "It didn't leak out. The whole thing was a setup. It was a deliberate, staff-driven effort to have something explode at the last minute. If Sen. (Dianne) Feinstein had walked in with the letter the day she got it, it would have been part of the normal process."
Ford was "very effective emotionally," said Gingrich, at the same time, nobody has corroborated her story, including when and where the alleged sexual assault took place.
Gingrich said he expects that Kavanaugh will be confirmed, pointing out that Sens. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D.; Joe Donnelly, D-Ind.; and Jon Tester, D-Montana, have all voted to confirm more conservative judges.
Meanwhile, Kavanaugh is fighting for the United States, not just his reputation, said Gingrich.
"If this can be done to him why would any conservative again allow themselves to be nominated?" said Gingrich. "You have no idea what the next allegation is."
He also complimented Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., saying that his angry statements during the hearing were his "best moment."
