The Red White & Blue Fund, the super PAC supporting Rick Santorum's presidential bid, has played a vital role in keeping him afloat financially as his campaign has ebbed and flowed. And now it’s continuing to boost his effort as the former Pennsylvania senator emerges as a co-front-runner with Mitt Romney.
The fund is shelling out $250,000 for pro-Santorum TV ads in Ohio, which holds its primary on Super Tuesday March 6, a strategist familiar with the buy told
Politico.
It’s the first TV ad campaign the fund has launched in a major media market. The allocations include $56,000 for ads in the Cincinnati market; $53,500 for Columbus; $40,500 for Toledo; and $32,000 for Dayton, the strategist said. There also will be $75,061 worth of ads on Fox and CNN in Cleveland.
The ads will air from Friday to Wednesday. They represent Santorum’s first significant paid-media presence in the biggest state holding a vote on Super Tuesday. Restore Our Future, Romney’s super PAC, already has been saturating Ohio TV markets with ads.
As in Michigan, which holds its primary Tuesday, Santorum’s super PAC ad spending will trail that of Romney’s. But Santorum’s super PAC will at least have an ad presence in Ohio, which is a far cry from what any Republican would have expected two months ago.
