Forty-two percent of South Florida Hispanic voters back Florida Republican Gov. Rick Scott in his bid for the Senate, while 39 percent favor incumbent Bill Nelson, D-Fla., according to a new poll for Telemundo 51.

Nineteen percent of those polled are still undecided. NBC 6, the sister station for Telemundo 51 reported the results.

The poll was conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy from June 25-29. The firm polled 1,000 Hispanic registered voters in Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe counties.  The margin of error is 3.2 percent.

Mason-Dixon pollster Brad Coker said Nelson is to blame for not cultivating support among Hispanic voters, according to Politico.

"It’s typical Nelson," Coker said. "He goes to Washington and he more or less blends in for five years; you don’t hear much from him. And then comes back a year, or a year-and-a-half before the election and he starts putting his coalition together. He has been able to get away with that because he has had historically weak opponents. Not now."
