The tussle between Senate Judiciary Committee Democrats and Republicans over the records of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh reached a stalemate Tuesday, Politico reports.
At issue is the five-year period that Kavanaugh spent in the White House counsel's office of George W. Bush. Democrats want to see everything; Judiciary chairman Sen. Chuck Grassley accuses Dems of going on a "fishing expedition," in an effort to stall the nomination from moving forward, Politico reported.
The tug-of-war has resulted in committee Democrats making their own appeal to the director of Bush's presidential library and museum for the documents.
Republicans are poised to get Kavanaugh confirmed and seated by the time the Supreme Court begins its next term in October.
