The Senate will have a "real trial" if the House sends the case against President Donald Trump its way, even though Democrats have not explained what high crimes and misdemeanors they think he has committed, Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., said Tuesday.
"It is a three-ring circus in the House," Scott told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "I think they forgot why they got elected. Secure the border, fix immigration, reduce drug prices. They forgot all those things.
"I think it will be difficult to convict [Trump]," he added.
Scott said his constituents are telling him to support and help Trump, but they also say they want the economy to go well, and for lawmakers to take care of the military.
"They talk about the things that normal people talk about," Scott said. "They don't talk about impeachment. This is just the Democrats thinking that they are going to hurt the president, to either kick him out of office or beat him next year."
Scott said he did not watch much of the impeachment inquiry proceedings, but he did read about them, but he does think Trump is the "only person who has been transparent" and Democrats did not prove their case.
"The bottom line is the Democrats hate President Trump," the senator said. "They have hated him since he got started. They'll do anything they can to get rid of him, but they haven't come up with what they can do. First [Robert] Mueller, now it's this call, and in the meantime, I think the public is fed up the Democrats aren't doing anything."
