Rafael Cruz: Indiana Is 'Ground Zero' for Ted Cruz

Tuesday, 26 April 2016 03:20 PM EDT

Ted Cruz's father on Tuesday urged Indiana Republicans to vote for his son and declared the Hoosier State the "ground zero" of the race for the White House.

"Indiana has become ground zero. The people of Indiana have the opportunity and the privilege and the awesome responsibility to perhaps decide who the next president of the United States will be,'' Rafael Cruz told Stephen K. Bannon on SiriusXM's Breitbart News.

"And I would encourage the people of Indiana to take that responsibility seriously. If Indiana votes according to their values, there's only one choice, and that choice is Sen Ted Cruz.

"The election is going to boil down to one word — trust. Who can you trust to do exactly what they say they're going to do? And Ted Cruz has a record of doing that 100 percent of the time."

He added that if his son takes the state, GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump will not be able to win the Republican nomination on the first ballot.

"And if he doesn't win the nomination on the first ballot, people will flock to Ted Cruz beyond the first ballot and Ted Cruz will become the Republican nominee," Rafael Cruz said.

He called Trump "totally unelectable."
