Sen. Bernie Sanders now has a slight lead over former Vice President Joe Biden in the battle for the Democrats' presidential nomination, according to the March national Investor's Business Daily/TIPP Poll, released one day before the vital Super Tuesday primaries.

According to the poll:

  • Sanders leads with 23% support.
  • Biden, 20%.
  • Sen. Elizabeth Warren, 17%.
  • Mike Bloomberg, 13%.
  • Pete Buttigieg, who dropped out on Sunday, netted 7% and Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who left the race Monday, got 6%.

For the survey, the IBD/TIPP Poll questioned 901 adults through cell phone and landlines between Feb. 20-29. The poll carried a margin of error of 3.3 percentage points.

Sanders' numbers climbed from 19% in February, marking the highest level of support the senator has received in the IBD/TIPP poll since the election cycle began. His support among moderate Democrats almost doubled, from 13% to 24%.

Biden, meanwhile, dropped by 6 points since February, for the first time since October that he didn't place first in the survey's results.

Biden continued with strong support from older voters and minorities, but Sanders topped him among younger Democrats. He got just 5% of support from voters ages 25-44, compared to 34% for Sanders.

Warren's support grew from 13% in February to 17% in March. She was the top choice for liberal voters, netting 29%, compared with 17% in February.

Bloomberg's numbers also grew, from 8% to 13%, but Buttigieg and Klobuchar remained in the single digits.

Each of the candidates came out slightly ahead of President Donald Trump:

  • Sanders over Trump: 49% to 47%.
  • Biden, 49% to 46%.
  • Warren, 48% to 46%.
  • Bloomberg, 48% to 47%.
  • Buttigieg, 48% to 45%.
  • Klobuchar, tied, 46%.
