Perry, Romney Tied in California GOP Poll

By    |   Monday, 05 September 2011 01:46 PM EDT

Texas Gov. Rick Perry and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney are tied at 22 percent apiece among Republican voters in California, according to a new poll.

Dan Schnur, director of the USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times poll, promised a battle for the GOP nomination in California as he released results of the poll.

The poll results, announced just days before the GOP presidential debate at the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley, Calif., give Texas Rep. Ron Paul gets 11 percent of the GOP vote, followed by Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann with 10 percent.

The USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times poll also found that, in hypothetical matchups between GOP candidates and President Barack Obama in the heavily democratic California, the Democratic president would get more than a majority of Golden State voters if the election took place today. Obama leads Romney, 54-35 percent and tops Perry 56-32 percent in the California survey.
