Brownback Endorses Perry; Issa Backs Romney

Republican politicians are starting to choose between presidential front-runners Rick Perry and Mitt Romney. Today, Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback opted for Texas Gov. Perry, the candidate’s aides told The Daily Caller.  And California Rep. Darrell Issa, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, is endorsing former Massachusetts Gov. Romney, Politico reports.

Issa has gained prominence among conservatives with his feisty opposition to the Obama administration. His California roots make him an attractive backer too. Issa said in a statement: “The country would be well served to have someone who knows how the economy works and has worked in the private sector. President Obama never worked in the real economy. We can’t afford to have another president who has spent his career outside the real economy.”

Brownback, who also served his state as a senator and ran for president in 2008, becomes the third governor to endorse Perry, after Louisiana’s Bobby Jindal and Nevada’s Brian Sandoval.

Brownback is a favorite of the social conservative movement. In the Senate, he fought to end human trafficking and prevent abortion.
