Obama Depends on Boehner for Jobs Bill Support

By    |   Wednesday, 14 September 2011 01:53 PM EDT

The White House can’t pass President Barack Obama’s jobs plan without help from House Speaker John Boehner. Obama is relying on the notion that Boehner needs to show tangible success in working to create jobs, just like the president, Politico reports.

As a result, the White House believes Republicans must work with Obama, despite his plunging approval ratings. Ratings are even worse for Congress, senior administration officials note.
And 60 House Republicans will run for re-election in districts won by Obama in 2008, they said. They maintain that, although tea partyers oppose Obama’s plan, independent voters don’t.

Not so fast, Republicans say. The Republican Conference strongly opposes Obama’s job measures, and many GOP congressmen are unwilling to do anything to help him in 2012. Moreover, Obama is shooting himself in the foot by calling for tax increases to finance his plan, Republicans say.
