Sen. Ted Budd to Newsmax: North Carolina Leads Against Antisemitic Protests

By    |   Saturday, 04 May 2024 01:52 PM EDT

North Carolina, which President Joe Biden had hoped would become a key 2024 presidential election battleground state, has proved it stands in stark contrast to pro-Palestine Democrat activists of blue states and liberal colleges and universities, Sen. Ted Budd, R-N.C., told Newsmax.

"This completely splits their party," Budd told "Saturday Agenda." "You've got the radical element, which is increasingly a larger and larger portion of the Democratic Party, this is really pushing them into the summer of '68 all over again. It's hugely concerning, and folks are leaving the Democratic Party in droves.

"Various ethnicities, they're saying, 'Look, the Republican Party is the party of the future.'

"So that's great, but we got to remember that we have to be strong on this. And as far as it goes to college campuses, I want to differentiate those in North Carolina versus those you see in the Ivy Leagues."

A University of North Carolina Pi Kappa Phi fraternity stood in the face of leftist activists sharing pro-Hamas terrorist sentiment, getting peppered with projectiles as it took down the banners and flags of terrorist actors to restore the American flag.

"The students initiated this and they all worked together out in front of the police, not just huddled and secured by the police," Budd told host Rob Astorino. "And so, look, I think there's a great example in North Carolina versus the weakness in the equivocating of the Ivy League leadership you're seeing that up there in the Northeast.

"You're seeing that in pockets of liberalism and radicalism around the country.

"But North Carolina is right on this issue, and there's other places of hope, even in among our college students around the country."

The support for terrorists against Israel's Gaza operation to return the hostages taken as human shields and to be used as leverage for giving Palestinians a state based on terrorist actions of Oct. 7 should be condemned and not supported, Budd continued, adding Israel deserves unwavering American support.

"It's completely split when it comes to the Democrats on this," Budd continued. "They have a position of American weakness. They don't believe that we're a great country. They don't believe we ought to be a strong country.

"But we are, we have been, and we can be again.

"So this is a real problem they're going to have to wrestle with, particularly as they move into the election season of 2024. We got to get back to being a strong nation again. That's when the world — not only us — but that's when the world is a safer place."

With a North Carolinian one of the five remaining American hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, Budd condemned President Joe Biden's attempt to grease the path for Gazan refugees to be brought to America before the administration presses the Hamas terrorists to release American hostages.

"You know, it's absolutely arrogant for the Biden administration to think that they could solve this by soft pedaling positions," Budd told Astorino.
