The advocacy group Need to Impeach in the next few weeks is spending at least $1 million on ads supporting President Donald Trump's removal from office ahead of a House vote and Senate trial, reports Politico.
The House will vote on articles of impeachment Wednesday. The House Judiciary Committee last week voted along party lines by 23-17 to forward the two articles of impeachment to the full House for a vote that is expected to approve sending the case to the Senate.
The committee in its report on articles of impeachment said Trump "betrayed the nation by abusing his high office to enlist a foreign power in corrupting democratic elections."
Need to Impeach, a political group dedicated to pushing for Trump's removal from office, was founded by presidential candidate and billionaire Tom Steyer in 2017.
The $1 million in ads includes a $350,000 buy premiering on CNN and MNSBC this week accusing Trump of betraying the U.S.
"He was supposed to protect our Constitution, not trample on it by asking foreign countries to undermine our democracy for his personal political gain," the ad says.
Nathaly Arriola, the executive director of Need to Impeach, told The Hill that Republicans "need to look in the mirror and ask themselves 'how corrupt is too corrupt.' If the Senate does not hold the president accountable, the American people will ultimately be the ones to hold them accountable."
