First lady Melania Trump's popularity has climbed to 57 percent, a 10-point jump since January, according to a new CNN poll.
It represents her highest level of popularity in the two-plus years CNN has surveyed on the first lady; she debuted at 24 percent in February 2016.
Melania Trump scores best with men, whites and Baby Boomers, according to CNN.
Those results:
- 60 percent of men have a favorable opinion of FLOTUS.
- 68 percent of people age 65 years and over have a favorable opinion.
- 67 percent of whites have a favorable opinion.
- 56 percent of Independents have a favorable opinion.
- 38 percent of Democrats even have a favorable opinion vs. 40 percent with an unfavorable.
However, Melania Trump's favorables are lower than her two most recent predecessors at around the same time in their tenures, CNN reports:
- September 2010: Michelle Obama had a 62 percent favorable rating.
- May 2002: Laura Bush had a 67 percent favorable rating.
The study was conducted for CNN via telephone by SSRS, an independent research company. Interviews were conducted May 2-5 among a sample of 1,015 respondents. The landline total respondents were 402 and there were 613 cell phone respondents. The margin of sampling error for total respondents is 3.6 percentage points at the 95 percent confidence level.
