Speaker Nancy Pelosi is "completely wrong on the law" with her challenge to President Donald Trump over his decision to withhold U.S. funding from the World Health Organization, new White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said Thursday.
"Speaker Pelosi is so off-base here," McEnany said on Fox News "Fox and Friends."
"This has nothing to do with blaming others. This is about holding the WHO accountable."
Pelosi on Wednesday said Trump's decision is "dangerous, illegal and will be swiftly challenged" and represented another case of Trump's "ineffective response" as a "weak leader."
"This president took bold action and there was an international organization that put American lives at risk," said McEnany. "As President Trump said yesterday, (hey) very likely caused a 20-fold increase in cases around the world. Our money is not going there, American tax dollars will not fund that. This halt is completely merited,” McEnany said.
McEnany also slammed MSNBC and CNN for the networks' decision to cut off several parts of Trump's daily coronavirus press briefings, including his announcements on Wednesday when he praised American workers for making ventilators.
"News organizations across the country that choose not to cover it and instead put on partisan individuals to put a lens on the news instead of hearing directly from their leaders, it is shameful,” said McAneny. "They should change that; the American people want leadership and they see it with President Trump and it is driving the news organizations across the country crazy."
