MyPillow CEO and founder Mike Lindell says shifting his production plants to make face masks for hospitals dealing with the coronavirus pandemic has been a tad challenging but well worth it.
“We had to source things like elastic with no latex. There was a lot to it. It’s not as simple as it sounds,” Lindell told Chris Salcedo Thursday during an appearance on Newsmax TV’s “The Chris Salcedo Show.”
“But I had already had the machines that can tool and make the cuts for the fabric. And I already had the right fabric, I just had to get the elastic. We completely redid one of the buildings – we put all the sewing machines over six feet apart. We brought everyone in. We’re probably up to 10,000 a day. I want to get up to 50,000 a day if I can.
“We’re trying to do the best we can to … help out our hospitals and first responders and these people that really need it right now in this time we’re in.”
Known as PPE (personal protective equipment), the gowns, masks, and gloves have been used up to conduct mass coronavirus testing, stressing supply for doctors and hospitals around the world and the country.
Lindell said MyPillow hit production strong on Monday.
“It’s been very fast. … I have the best team. We’re so passionate about helping people. We just want to get it done. We know the urgency of it.”
Lindell also said he wants to make PPE for the long haul.
“When this is done, this is going to be a whole new footprint we live in. The president wants companies and manufacturers here in the United States – I’ll tell you what, he’s going to make sure that there are manufacturers of our medical needs so we’re not getting 90-some percent from overseas and I want to be one of those companies that is there when we need it.”
