Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., said that "it makes no difference" whether House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., or House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., is speaker in light of the failure of Republicans to stall the Democrats' agenda.
"We are passing the Democratic agenda each and every day that we're here. We have a slim majority in the House. And ... everything's being passed overwhelmingly with Democrat support. So it makes no difference to me if it's Hakeem Jeffries as speaker or Mike Johnson right now," Boebert told CNN on Tuesday.
For the past several weeks, Boebert's colleague Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., has threatened to remove Johnson from his post over what she considers his failure to implement a conservative agenda. On Wednesday, Greene told reporters she would demand a vote next week on the motion to vacate that she filed March 22.
"They funded the uniparty agenda; they funded the status quo that Washington, D.C., just wants to keep going and keep going. I voted for Mike Johnson because his voting record before he became speaker was conservative. He was against funding Ukraine. He was solidly pro-life. He voted to secure the border," she continued.
"If this vote fails and the whole conference, the whole Congress, supports the uniparty, let me tell you something: That is not a failure; it's a win for the American people, because that's a list of names," Greene said. "They deserve that list."
Only Reps. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., and Paul Gosar, R-Ariz. have publicly supported Greene's efforts, The New York Times reported.
On Tuesday, after the House Democratic Caucus met, Jeffries, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark, and Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar said in a statement: "We will vote to table Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's Motion to Vacate the Chair. If she invokes the motion, it will not succeed."
