The man who investigated former President Bill Clinton's extramarital affair with Monica Lewinsky is reportedly in line for a job in the Trump administration.

According to Foreign Policy, Ken Starr is being vetted for the job of ambassador-at-large for international religious freedom under President Donald Trump. Starr most recently served as the chancellor of Baylor University, a position from which he resigned last year amid claims the school mishandled investigations into sexual assaults on campus.

"It's my understanding that it's his job if he wants it," a source told Foreign Policy.

The Office of International Religious Freedom was created in 1998. According to a page on the State Department's website, its mission is to promote freedom of religion worldwide.

"We monitor religious persecution and discrimination worldwide, recommend and implement policies in respective regions or countries, and develop programs to promote religious freedom," the website reads.

Starr served as solicitor general during former President George H.W. Bush's administration. In 1994 during the Clinton administration, Starr was appointed by a panel of three judges in Washington, D.C. to investigate the Whitewater scandal.

His investigation was eventually expanded to the death of former Clinton aide Vince Foster and, later, the Lewinsky scandal.

During an interview with the Baylor Lariat last fall, Starr spoke about his passion for furthering religious liberty.

"I'm working very hard around the globe on issues of religious liberty for all persons," Starr said. "That was a high priority when I was privileged to serve at Baylor University.

"I am a member of the board of directors of Advocates International, which is a worldwide network of lawyers in over 120 countries who work to promote and defend religious liberty around the world."
