Republican Kari Lake, a fervid defender of former President Donald Trump, reportedly has raised more than $2 million in the first three months of her campaign for Arizona's U.S. Senate seat.
Lake, who leads a crowded field of candidates for the Republican nomination to face independent incumbent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema and likely Democrat nominee Rep. Ruben Gallego, raised $2.1 million from mid-October to Dec. 31, Politico reported Monday. Her cash on hand was not immediately known.
"Kari Lake is outworking everyone, posting a very strong fundraising haul for her first quarter in the race," Garrett Ventry, a senior adviser to Lake, said in a statement to Politico. "Arizona is the best pick-up opportunity for Senate Republicans."
Arizona is among a number of states Republicans are focusing on in their hopes of regaining the Senate. They would need to flip two Democrat seats without losing any in November to take control. Heavily red states West Virginia, where Democrat Joe Manchin is not running for re-election, and Montana, where Democrat Jon Tester has been in office since 2007, are in play, as well as Arizona.
Republicans also are concentrating on races in Michigan, where incumbent Democrat Debbie Stabenow is not running for re-election, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
Lake lost a bid for Arizona's governor in 2022 by 17,116 votes in an election she claims was rife with voter fraud. Her endorsements for the Senate include Trump, Republican Sens. John Barrasso of Wyoming and Tom Cotton of Arkansas and Reps. Elise Stefanik of New York, chair of the House Republican Conference, and Byron Donalds of Florida.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee has not endorsed a candidate for the primary, but Politico reported it is working closely with Lake's team.
"Kari Lake has strong grassroots support that is clearly translating to fundraising success," Sen. Steve Daines, R-Mont., chair of the committee, said in a statement to Politico.
Newsmax reached out to Lake's campaign for comment.
Gallego has raised more than $3 million for the past three quarters, Politico reported, and Sinema's fundraising has dried up since switching from Democrat to independent, but she had more than $10 million in the bank after the third quarter.
In other U.S. Senate races, Dave McCormick, a candidate for the GOP nomination in Pennsylvania, raised $5.4 million in the final four months of 2023 and gave himself another $1 million contribution, Politico reported, and Sam Brown in Nevada raised $1.85 million.
