Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., on Sunday chided President Donald Trump for tweeting about Department of Justice cases, saying “tweeting less would not cause brain damage.”

In an interview on CBS News’ “Face The Nation,” Kennedy said the Trump tweets put Attorney General William Barr in an “awkward position.”

“Does the president have a right to tweet about a case? Of course,” he said. “Just because you can sing, though, doesn't mean you should sing. You can have a voice like Mick Jagger, but you wouldn't want to start belting out ‘Honky Tonk Woman’ in church. This is a case where tweeting less would not cause brain damage.”

According to Kennedy, Barr is “mature,” “serious” and “exercises power fairly and intelligently.”

“He's cursed with a rational mind and he's tough as a boot,” Kennedy said. “And he has given the president his advice, his best advice. And I hope that President Trump will accept it.

Kennedy also said he stood solidly behind his previous position that Trump was on solid ground calling for an investigation of Joe Biden, his son Hunter and Burisma in Ukraine.

“There's nothing wrong with a president asking for an investigation of corruption,” Kennedy said.
