Gov. John Kasich, R-Ohio, is reportedly taking a step toward a possible 2020 presidential campaign, meeting privately Thursday with several national security and foreign policy experts.
BuzzFeed News, citing unnamed sources, reported discussions in Columbus on Thursday were the first in a series of meetings on domestic and foreign policy aimed at keeping the Ohio Republican current in global affairs.
Names of those attending were not revealed, but BuzzFeed News said sources described them as veterans of past presidential administrations and political staffs.
Kasich's national security adviser during his 2016 GOP primary bid, King Mallory, helped coordinate the gathering, the outlet reported.
Kasich earlier this week joined former Vice President Joe Biden for a forum at the University of Delaware on "civility in politics," BuzzFeed News noted.
