Sen. John Cornyn on Thursday corrected President Donald Trump over a provision in the stopgap spending bill regarding the Children's Health Insurance Plan (CHIP) program.
Trump earlier in the day opposed what he thought was a 30-day extension, but the No. 2 Republican in the Senate said that's not the case.
Cornyn himself goofed on the length of CHIP earlier in the day during an interview on "Fox and Friends," thinking then that it was for five years.
But Trump's tweet was another hurdle for Republicans, who are trying to sweeten the pot in order to get Democratic support in the Senate, only to have the president throw cold water on it.
The House is expected to vote Thursday on another one-month extension ahead of Friday's deadline to avert a government shutdown.
