MSNBC host Joe Scarborough announced Thursday he would officially registered as an Independent — a decision that came some three months after he declared he was leaving the Republican Party.

In the sarcastic tweet, the former GOP Florida congressman took aim not only at President Donald Trump's one-time support of the "birther" movement that questioned Barack Obama's U.S. citizenship – but also Trump's gaff in a September speech at the United Nations that referenced the nonexistent country "Nambia."

"Actually, that's the New Canaan Registrar of Voters John Amarilios after I became an unaffiliated voter," Scarborough said in a second tweet, referring to the man standing next to him in the picture.

Scarborough is a resident of New Canaan, Conn.

Over the summer, Scarborough announced he was leaving the GOP during an appearance on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" following Trump's tweet attack on "Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski.

He tweeted Wednesday that Trump was destroying the GOP.
