'Morning Joe' Host Leaving GOP to Become Independent

CBS's "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert"

MSNBC host and former GOP Florida congressman Joe Scarborough, a frequent critic – and target – of President Donald Trump, says he is leaving the Republican Party.

In an appearance on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" that will air Tuesday night, Scarborough announced he is bailing on the GOP to be "an Independent."

"I am a Republican, but I'm not going to be a Republican anymore," Scarborough told Colbert. "I've got to become an Independent."

The former congressman served in Florida's 1st District from 1995 to 2001.

Scarborough and "Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski have been publicly feuding with Trump for months – a fight that exploded after the president fired off a pair of tweets late last month insulting their intelligence, sanity, and looks.
