President Donald Trump's tweets show that he intends to fire special counsel Robert Mueller, Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., said Tuesday on CNN.
"I trust the tweets that the president puts out when he's unsupervised. I think what we have seen over and over again is (Trump's) intention to obstruct justice," Speier said on CNN's "New Day."
"He's so accustomed to being able to use his position as a family company and shut people down by filing lawsuits, and threatening them.
"He thinks he can do that with the American public, and he can't do that. He can't tamper with the justice system, which he has clearly attempted to do over and over again," she added.
Speier said she does not trust the assurances of Trump lawyer Ty Cobb, who released a statement Sunday.
"The White House yet again confirms that the president is not considering or discussing the firing of the special counsel, Robert Mueller," the statement read.
The congresswoman said on Sunday that she would take action if Trump fired Mueller.
