Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, has delayed his effort to impeach President Donald Trump after the mass shooting in Las Vegas in which over 50 were killed, the Washington Examiner reported.

On the floor Monday afternoon, Green addressed House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., saying, "there is a right time for all things. This is a time for our nation to mourn and for hearts to heal. Mr. Speaker, I announce that impeachment is postponed."

He added, "let us mourn. Let us heal."

Green announced last week, during a floor speech in which he slammed Trump’s remarks about NFL players kneeling during the national anthem, he would file articles of impeachment.

"I rise to denounce these comments that have been made because they have brought discourse to a new low," Green said, according to Fox News. "I will stand here in the well of the Congress, and I will call for the impeachment of the president."

Despite Green's announcement, Democrats have not rallied behind impeaching Trump. Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., told The Hill "we're not there yet," although he believes Trump has done "really terrible things."

"I don't want to vote on impeachment. I think it's too early. We don't have the evidence; we don't have the case," said Nadler, a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee, who added it is dangerous to seek impeachment too early.

"You don't want to discredit it by voting for impeachment resolutions before you have the facts," he said.

Rep. Michael Capuano, D-Mass., told the Hill that Green should have consulted the rest of the Democratic caucus before making his announcement last week.

"I think that anybody who''s going to bring something like that to the floor has an obligation to talk to his colleagues before he does it," he said.
