Agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement will be on alert this Election Day, having been ordered to respond if unrest threatens to damage federal property, NBC News reports.
Two officials from the Department of Homeland Security told NBC that ICE, which is frequently used to provide extra security in Washington on inauguration day but has never been used on Election Day, have been told to be ready next week for any unrest on or after November 3.
ICE, along with Customs and Border Protection and the Federal Protective Service, were named as members of the “Protecting American Communities Task Force,” which President Donald Trump established in an executive order last June.
A CBP spokesperson told NBC: "As a law enforcement component under the DHS Protecting American Communities Task Force (PACT), CBP will continue to provide support, as requested, to the Federal Protective Service to protect Federal facilities and property if needed and to local law enforcement partners if requested."
